Jay has been bowling in Kokomo for over 25 years. He does much on and off the lanes and is a pleasant, friendly person with everyone that he bowls with. Jay served as a coach for one year at Don Lowry Lanes as well as starting a prayer group with Hall of Fame Member Tom Beale inviting the Progressive League participants for a prayer before league play starts.

MAJOR BOWLING ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • He has the unusual distinction of having rolled an 800 series before rolling his first 700 series. He accomplished that feat in 1980, and it was the Kokomo City Record Series at the time.
  • He was also the first bowler in Kokomo to roll a 300 and 800 in the same season.
  • Jay’s career high average of 204 (based on 72 games) fits right in with his consistent-style bowling. His top average each season since the 1993-94 season are 198, 192, 192, 191, 202, 203, 198, 193, 204, 193, 198, and 193.
  • Jay rolled his Career High Series and the City Record of 814 (268, 279, 267) on November 23, 1980, at Cedar Crest Lanes.
  • On December 19, 2005—25 years later, he rolled his second 800 series at Cedar Crest Lanes with the first 20 strikes for an 803 series (300, 269, 234).
  • On March 17, 1980, Jay reached perfection with his first 300 game at Cedar Crest, which was the 19th perfect game in Kokomo. He accomplished that feat again on December 19, 2005, also bowled at Cedar Crest Lanes.

  • As a league bowler, Jay is a seven-time team league champion and league individual series once.
  • Jay has participated in the Kokomo Championship Tournament every year since 1978.
  • He has participated in the Men’s State Tournament every year since 1978 with his best finish being 6th place in Doubles Actual Event with Doug Workman.
  • Jay has rolled five games in the 280’s including 289, 288 (2), and 285; as well as 8-279 games and 2-278 games.
  • He rolled about 10 series of 700 or over including a 753, 741, and his 800’s.
  • Jay’s awards/recognitions include 3-150 Over Series Awards, 3-100 Over Game Awards, an 11-in-a-Row Award (279), a Dutch 200, and a 212 Triplicate.
